Manifesto
Information and communication technologies are developed and deployed in unhealthy and harmful ways: they damage human and environmental well-being, create dependency, reinforces unjust power structures, and make public discourse hostile and polarized. We believe it is possible and necessary to think and do technology otherwise.
What
Technology mediates the interaction with our environment and is intrinsically political. We research and develop technology that empower, emancipate and provide autonomy.
We are critical of techno-solutionsism and believe that technology needs to serve communities and not the other way around.
We study and observe tools, technology and their complex interactions with social and natural environments, before taking action. We are considerate about resources and materials, and understand the necessities of using what is available. We strive for simple, accessible and resilient technology and take inspiration from the Permacomputing movement.
We consider our research and our work as a learning experience, and we encourage ourselves and each other to learn and grow. We do-it-ourselves and we share our insights and knowledge with our peers.
How
allios is a worker-owned cooperative. We respect each other and support each other as equals. We make decisions in consensus and express objections constructively and with explicit conditions. When discussing topics and making decisions, the thoughts and opinions of every member are heard.
Limits
We refuse to work with and for fascists, racists, sexists, oppressors, suppressors, members or entities of state repression apparatuses or nation-state armed forces.
